1989 – Former Saint Louis Cardinals first baseman and six time all-star Bill White was named president of National League.


1965 – Geraldine McCullough, Chicago Art teacher and sculptor, wins the George Widener Memorial Gold Medal.

1903 – Jack Jackson became the first Negro Heavyweight Champion.
