The Climate Rally, April 25

Posted by espressodog on April 16, 2010

Earth Day is a global event bringing together over one billion people worldwide to advocate for environmental protections. The first Earth Day, organized in 1970 by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson, was an explosion of Americans’ energy for the environment: 20 million people took part in a nation-wide rally, spurring Congress to pass landmark environmental legislation including the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.

The 40th Anniversary of Earth Day is this year!

BPW Foundation has been “going green” through our Moving from Red to Green: Working Women in the Green Economy initiative. Red to Green explores women’s demand for green jobs and how to ensure that they are recruited, trained and retained in the sustainable jobs of the future. BPW Foundation encourages women to pursue any career, any field, any position and is committed to increasing the number of women in better-paying, non-traditional fields and ensuring that the careers of the future are pursued equally by all genders.

Do something GREEN to honor the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day.

  • Earthday.org can connect your with environmental service projects and volunteer opportunities in your community.
  • 1 Billion Acts of Green is a campaign to encourage small but impactful changes in everyday people’s behavior by registering acts of environmental service or advocacy.  An “Act of Green” could be changing an incandescent light bulb to a CFL, writing a letter to an elected leader, planting a tree, or organizing neighbors to clean up a local road or park.
