Football Isn’t Just Reserved for the Boys

Today marks the start of the 2010 football season and what better way to kick off the festivities than having the opening game in New Orleans where the Super Bowl champs, the New Orleans Saints, get to defend their title against the Minnesota Vikings. As a life-long Saints fan, it’s as if we picked up right where we left off in February! Pretty exciting for the Who Dat nation in New Orleans.
It also seems that my love of football is shared by throngs of other women. Increasingly more and more women are getting into football and cheering on their favorite teams. And the NFL is noticing and so are the heads of merchandise. Nowadays you can purchase some really cute NFL gear designed for women’s bodies, and look like a die hard fan.
The Saints have a strong female following including Rita Benson LeBlanc who is part-owner and executive vice president of the team. I think we will continue to see more women with leadership roles within the NFL.
So ladies, here’s to a great football season…. and go Black and Gold!
